Many times, I get clients that call and apologise that they can’t attend their appointment because they have come down with a cold or flu. So, I bring it their attention that this is actually the optimal time to come in and have a treatment, to support their body in fighting the pathogens.
Cold and flu symptoms do vary and most people confuse the two. It is vital to know the difference between flu and cold symptoms. A cold is a milder respiratory illness compared to the flu. They can both make you feel bad for a few days, however the flu can be more serious and lead to other difficulties such as pneumonia and even hospitalisation.
Cold symptoms usually begin with a sore throat which is then followed by nasal symptoms, such as feeling congested or a runny nose that could lead to a cough. Fever is not common in adults but children may be affected by a mild fever. If cold symptoms linger for more than a week then the cold may turn into a bacterial infection.
Flu symptoms are more severe than cold symptoms, and tend to come on more quickly. Common flu symptoms include a sore throat, headaches, muscle aches, and congestion with a cough.

Acupuncture may be used to treat any form of cold or flu, and at any stage of the infection, although the longer one waits to treat an infectious disease, the longer it takes to clear the pathogen.
